Central African Republic

The composition’s deep green field gives the composition a strong organic unity. Blue, orange, pink, red and pale geometric forms intersect across its dense impasto surface, while long extensions lead the eye beyond the central mass. The layered divisions suggest cultural plurality and interconnected histories, with white space sharpening the irregular silhouette and giving its complex rhythm clarity.

The Central African Republic lies in the interior of Africa, where savannah, woodland and tropical forest meet. Its territory has long connected communities and trading routes across the continent. Formerly part of French Equatorial Africa, the country achieved independence in 1960, carrying forward a rich inheritance of regional societies and traditions. Its cultural identity embraces many communities, including Gbaya, Banda, Mandjia and Sara peoples. Sango and French are official languages, while numerous other languages enrich national life. Oral traditions, music, dance, woodcarving and communal craftsmanship preserve knowledge and creativity across generations.
