El Arte Monumental Research Publications announces the release of Gheorghe Virtosu: A Painter Looking at the Human World — An Introduction, a new publication dedicated to introducing the work and artistic development of contemporary painter Gheorghe Virtosu to collectors, museums, art foundations, curators, researchers and readers internationally.

The publication provides a structured first encounter with an extensive body of painting developed across more than two decades. Rather than functioning as a catalogue raisonné or definitive art-historical assessment, the book has been conceived as an accessible point of entry into Virtosu's practice and the questions that have increasingly surrounded it.

Through paintings spanning different periods of the artist's development, the book traces the emergence of a distinctive abstract visual language and the gradual expansion of Virtosu's subjects from individual and historical questions toward identity, belief, political authority, conflict, cultural memory, religion and civilisation.

An Introduction to Gheorghe Virtosu for Collectors and Institutions

At the centre of the publication is a simple proposition: the paintings should be encountered before the theories surrounding them.

The book therefore begins with Virtosu's artistic development and visual language before examining how individual paintings became connected through increasingly complex relationships of colour, form, structure and subject.

Works reproduced in the publication include The Couple of the Universe (2006), The Source of Life (2007), The Magician (2009), Margaret Thatcher (2013), The Protector of the Souls (2015), Buddhism (2016–2018), Divine DNA (2010–2016), The King of Democracy (2018), Kenau (2016) and The Protector of Humanity (2017), among others.

The selection demonstrates the breadth of a practice in which abstraction is not treated as an escape from recognisable subjects. Instead, Virtosu's paintings engage with questions that frequently resist literal representation: authority, courage, belief, historical memory, identity and the relationship between individuals and the larger structures to which they belong.

From Painting to Research

A central purpose of the publication is to establish a clear historical distinction between Virtosu's artistic practice and the research subsequently developed around his work.

El Arte Monumental began researching Virtosu's existing oeuvre in 2015. That investigation subsequently generated theoretical propositions including Systemic Abstraction, New Perfection and Epistemic Painting, as well as the broader research framework known as The Architecture of Humanity.

The publication does not retrospectively attribute these theories to Virtosu. Instead, it establishes the chronology explicitly: the artist created the paintings independently; the body of work developed; El Arte Monumental subsequently studied it; and theoretical propositions emerged from that research.

This distinction provides museums, foundations, collectors and researchers with a clearer basis from which to encounter both the paintings and the scholarship developing around them.

Painting, Identity and the Human World

As Virtosu's oeuvre expanded, apparently separate subjects increasingly became connected by a larger question: how can individual elements retain their difference while belonging to a coherent whole?

Within individual paintings, that question appears through relationships between forms, colours, directions, surfaces and compositional structures. Across the wider oeuvre, it appears through subjects concerned with individuals, societies, religions, political systems and civilisations.

El Arte Monumental's later research has examined these relationships through The Architecture of Humanity, a framework concerned with the structures connecting identity, belief, conflict, power and influence.

The publication introduces this research while maintaining the independence and ambiguity of the paintings themselves.

A Publication Designed to Begin, Not Conclude, the Conversation

Gheorghe Virtosu: A Painter Looking at the Human World deliberately avoids presenting itself as the final assessment of the artist.

Instead, it establishes an introductory foundation from which more specialised research can develop.

Individual works, collections, chronology, artistic methodology, historical subjects, cultural representation and theoretical interpretation remain areas for further study. The publication consequently serves both as an introduction for new audiences and as an initial reference point for museums, cultural foundations, institutional collections, curators, art historians and collectors seeking to examine Virtosu's practice more closely.

The book ultimately returns to the experience from which the research began: encountering the painting itself.
