Chad

The work is dominated by an intense red impasto, animated by yellow, blue and turquoise passages. Broad curved masses meet sharp points, intersecting geometries and a detached lower form. The concentrated colours suggest energy and continuity, while the white spaces create openness between elements. Its shifting internal divisions can be read as an abstract evocation of Chad’s varied landscapes, histories and cultural plurality.

Chad lies at the meeting point of North and Central Africa, stretching from the Sahara through the Sahel to southern savannah. Ancient trade routes connected its peoples with the wider continent, while powerful states, including the Kanem- Bornu tradition, shaped regional history. Chad became independent from France in 1960. Its cultural identity embraces numerous communities, including Sara, Arab, Kanembu and many others. Arabic and French are official languages, alongside a rich diversity of local languages. Oral poetry, storytelling, music, dance, weaving and decorative traditions preserve cultural memory across generations and regions.
