Ethiopia

The composition's dominant red field carries strong horizontal momentum. Circular modules establish rhythm, while turquoise, yellow, green and pale violet create vivid contrasts. Triangles and curved forms converge around the centre as vertical elements rise above the main structure. Its balance between expansion and concentration can be read as evoking Ethiopia’s remarkable continuity: ancient yet living, culturally diverse and continually renewed.

Ethiopia possesses one of Africa’s deepest civilisational histories. From the ancient Kingdom of Aksum to the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, its highlands and valleys preserve an exceptional architectural and spiritual inheritance. Its long history of sovereignty has also given Ethiopia a distinctive place in African historical consciousness. Oromo, Amhara, Tigrayan, Somali, Sidama, Afar and many other communities contribute to a richly plural identity. Christianity and Islam have deep roots, while Ethiopia also holds an important Jewish heritage. Geʽez manuscripts, religious painting, processional crosses, textiles, music and ceremonial traditions sustain cultural memory, while coffee culture gives hospitality and community an enduring everyday ritual.
