The artwork reflects this plurality through a dense architecture of interlocking forms. Earthy ochres and burnt browns establish a dominant ground, crossed by turquoise, emerald, deep blue, white and flashes of brighter green. Heavy impasto unifies the contrasting sections, while triangular openings, curved compartments, narrow vertical projections and sharp descending points create restless movement. Several shapes overlap around a compressed centre before extending outward in different directions; a small detached angular element below introduces another visual interval. The composition suggests multiplicity held together without uniformity—a complex field in which distinct forms retain their individuality while participating in a larger whole.

India extends from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, encompassing great river plains, deserts, forests, plateaux and long coastlines. Its history developed through ancient urban civilisations, kingdoms and empires, extensive trading networks, Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh and Islamic traditions, and centuries of cultural exchange. British colonial rule ended with independence and Partition in 1947, establishing the modern Republic of India within an exceptionally diverse historical landscape. India’s cultural identity embraces hundreds of languages and numerous regional, religious and ethnic traditions. Sanskrit, Tamil, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu and many other literary cultures coexist with immense traditions of oral storytelling. Temple architecture, miniature painting, sculpture, textiles, metalwork and ceramics accompany classical and folk music, dance, theatre and one of the world’s largest cinema cultures. Artistic practices remain intensely regional while continually influencing one another.
