The artwork is dominated by vivid red, structured through intersecting white bands and forceful black, green and turquoise passages. Thick impasto gives the surface pronounced physical energy. A large dark curved enclosure anchors the upper left, while sharp diagonals, narrow verticals and projecting points drive movement across and beyond the central mass. Smaller green, pink and blue compartments emerge between overlapping red planes, creating a tightly compressed geometry. The composition suggests convergence and outward movement, evoking Kuwait’s position between desert hinterland and maritime routes, while its layered intersections recall a society transformed by trade, oil and rapid modernisation.

Kuwait lies at the north-western edge of the Persian Gulf, where an arid landscape meets a historically important maritime corridor. Its development was shaped by seafaring, regional trade, fishing and pearl diving, with Kuwait City emerging as a significant Gulf port. The Al Sabah dynasty has ruled since the eighteenth century. The Iraqi invasion of 1990 and liberation in 1991 remain defining events in its modern history. Kuwaiti culture combines Arabian traditions with the cosmopolitan inheritance of a trading society. Arabic is the official language, and Islam is central to cultural life. Maritime songs, poetry, weaving and traditional crafts preserve connections with earlier ways of life, while theatre, literature, architecture and contemporary visual art have developed strongly within the modern state. Migration and commerce have also contributed to Kuwait’s culturally varied social environment.
