New Art Book Reveals Gheorghe Virtosu’s Architecture of Conflict Through Six Systems of War

Gheorghe Virtosu and the Architecture of Conflict introduces the artist’s visual systems of war, power, history and human restoration.

El Arte Monumental Research Publications announces the publication of Gheorghe Virtosu and the Architecture of Conflict: Six Systems of War and the Structure of Artistic Thought, a new book examining how Gheorghe Virtosu transforms individual paintings into interconnected systems of historical and philosophical meaning.

Written for the general public as well as readers interested in contemporary art, painting, war, history and visual culture, the book offers an accessible introduction to the structure of Virtosu’s artistic thought. It presents six War Systems organized around decisive moments of human conflict:

• War System I: Convergence at Gaugamela
• War System II: Convergence at Waterloo
• War System III: Convergence at World War I
• War System IV: Convergence at World War II
• War System V: Convergence at Hawai Sakusen
• War System VI: Convergence at Ukraine War

Each War System brings together a monumental central painting and a constellation of related works. Historical leaders, political actors, collective beliefs, military strategies and competing structures of power converge within each system. Seen together, the paintings reveal how Virtosu develops meaning across groups of works rather than through isolated images.

The book is extensively illustrated, allowing readers to encounter the individual paintings and the complete arrangement of each War System. These system views make Virtosu’s method immediately visible: paintings operate independently, but they also acquire new meaning through their relationships with surrounding works.

At the centre of the wider framework is The Sanitary of the Universe (2026), a Non-Codex transitional work. It does not belong to any single War System. Instead, it returns conceptually in the intervals between wars, repairing what conflict has damaged, restoring balance and allowing humanity to continue before another cycle of confrontation begins.

Through this recurring restorative work, The Architecture of Conflict becomes more than a study of warfare. It examines conflict as a persistent human structure and asks how societies survive destruction, reconstruct order and return repeatedly to instability.

The six War Systems can each be approached as a complete presentation in their own right. Ultimately, however, they converge within a master Architecture of Conflict, where all six systems and the transitional work can be understood together as one complex visual investigation into power, identity, ideology, historical memory and human continuity.

The publication is the third book in a continuing inquiry into the oeuvre and artistic thought of Gheorghe Virtosu. It follows Gheorghe Virtosu: A Painter Looking at the Human World—An Introduction and The Architecture of Humanity: The Structure of the Human World in the Oeuvre of Gheorghe Virtosu.

Together, the three books move from a general introduction to the artist’s engagement with the human world, through the larger structure of humanity, and finally into conflict as the clearest point at which Virtosu’s systemic method becomes visible.
